About Rachel

I started my Scouting journey as a Brownie in the UK, in the days before girls were allowed to join Scouts.

As I grew, I progressed through Girl Guides, Rangers and as a Young Leader, having plenty of adventures along the way. My first ever overseas trip was a pack holiday to Switzerland, the home of the World Guide Chalet and The World Scout Centre, aged 13, followed by a selection for an ‘Experiment in International Living’ programme, aged 16, where I spent a month living with 3 Japanese families whose daughters were Japanese Girl Scouts. These experiences had a profound effect on me and I got the travel bug.

Fast forward to some years later, living in the Middle East with a young family of my own, my sons had the opportunity to join 1st Kuwait Beavers. Of course, being a Primary school teacher, it wasn’t long before I was roped in to help… and before I knew it, I was in a uniform and running the group.

Our Scouting journey continued when we relocated to Spain in 2016. Since then I have assisted with Beavers, Scouts and now Explorers, happy to help out wherever needed.

My favourite part of Scouting are the camps and jamborees, of which I have had the privileged of attending many, both here in Spain, in the UK, plus also Kuwait, Dubai, Oman and The Netherlands.
